Transverse prestressing and reinforced concrete as the key to restoration of masonry arch bridges

There is still a large number of masonry arch bridges on the road and railway network. More than 80 % are over 100 years old so their service life has been exceeded significantly. The general focus paper to show method for strengthening restoration these bridges, especially if they have damaged by longitudinal cracks. performed using new spandrel walls from reinforced concrete stabilized transverse prestressed cables. This illustrates process with four examples restored or bridges. In addition, it includes basic cable arrangements design walls, which used as anchorage areas prestressing. efficiency this will be determined data measured during prestressing load test. measurements shown an extremely favourable effect addition horizontal within walls. After evaluation deformation top cross-section reduced up 40 values before strengthening.
